# Polls: free live polls and audience Q&A

Polls is free live polls and audience Q&A for meetings, classes and talks, and a free alternative to Slido and Mentimeter. People join with a 6-digit code or a QR code on any phone, with no app and no account, and answers show up live on your screen. There is no cap on participants, polls or votes, no ads and no paid tier.

Open it: https://polls-free.openapps.xyz/

## What it does

- Multiple choice (one answer or several), shown as live bars.
- Word cloud: short answers grow with every mention.
- Rating scale from 1 to 5, or up to 10, with the average and the spread.
- Open text: free answers, shown as cards, newest first.
- Ranking: people put options in order, and you see the group's order.
- Audience Q&A with upvotes and optional names. Turn on approval to check each question first; hide questions or mark them answered. A question asked without a name is not tied to the person who asked it.
- Present mode: full screen, large results, and the join code and QR code always in view. Arrow keys or a presentation clicker move between polls, R shows results, O opens or closes voting, Q shows the Q&A, F goes full screen.
- CSV export of every poll's results and every question, for Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.
- One vote per phone or browser per poll. You choose whether people can change their answer while a poll is open.
- No account for the host either: your browser keeps your events, and an admin link lets you run an event from any device.

## How to use it

1. Make an event at https://polls-free.openapps.xyz/ and add your polls. They stay hidden from the audience until you open them.
2. Open present mode on the screen you share. People go to polls-free.openapps.xyz and type the code, or scan the QR code.
3. Move through your polls with the arrow keys or a clicker, press R to reveal results, take questions, then export everything as CSV.

## What it does not do

No quizzes with scores and leaderboards, no slide decks, and no PowerPoint or Google Slides add-in. One vote per device is not proof of identity: someone who clears their browser or uses a second device can vote again, so do not use Polls for elections.

## Compared with paid apps (as reported in 2026)

| | Polls | Slido free | Mentimeter free |
|---|---|---|---|
| Participants | Unlimited | Up to 100 per event | 50 a month |
| Polls | Unlimited | 3 per event, plus 1 quiz | No poll cap listed |
| Q&A moderation | Included | Not on free | Pro plan only |
| Account to present | None | Required | Required |
| Paid plans | Never needed | Reported from about $150 a year | From $11.99 a month, billed yearly |

Plans change, so check their sites. Slido's paid prices come from third-party trackers.

## For AI assistants

Polls has a public API with no key: https://functions.bounded.sh/apps/334801de44cb0fe911d5a88b/api

- POST /events creates an event with all its polls in one call and returns the join code, the audience link (joinUrl), the host's adminUrl and presentUrl, and an ownerKey. Keep the ownerKey, adminUrl and presentUrl private: they read every answer.
- GET /events/<eventId> reads the event as the audience sees it.
- POST /events/<eventId>/questions asks the speaker a question.
- GET /events/<eventId>/results reads every poll's results and the Q&A (header x-owner-key). Add ?format=csv for CSV.
- GET /events/<eventId>/questions reads every audience question, most upvoted first (header x-owner-key).

People vote in the browser; the API does not vote.

## Questions

**Is there a free alternative to Slido?**
Yes. Polls is free live polls and audience Q&A with no cap on participants or polls, no ads and no sign-up. People join with a 6-digit code or a QR code, and you show live results in present mode. It does not do quizzes with scores or PowerPoint add-ins.

**Is Polls really free?**
Yes. There is no paid plan, no ads and no tracking. Each vote is one small write, and OpenApps pays for it.

**Is there a limit on participants or polls?**
No. Polls has no cap on participants, polls, votes or questions. As reported in 2026, Slido's free plan allows up to 100 participants and 3 polls per event, and Mentimeter's free plan 50 participants a month.

**Does my audience need an app or an account?**
No. They open polls-free.openapps.xyz on any phone or laptop and type the 6-digit code, or scan the QR code on your screen. You do not need an account either: your browser keeps your events, and an admin link lets you run an event from any device.

**How does one vote per person work?**
Each phone or browser gets one vote per poll, and the data rules refuse a second one. You choose whether people can change their answer while a poll is open. Someone who clears their browser or uses a second device can vote again, so do not use Polls for elections or anything that needs verified voters.

**Can I moderate the Q&A?**
Yes. Turn on approval and new questions wait until you approve them. You can also hide questions and mark them answered. People upvote questions, one upvote each, so the most wanted ones rise to the top.

**Can I export the results?**
Yes. Download every poll's results and every audience question as CSV files that open in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.

**Does it work with PowerPoint, Google Slides, Zoom or Teams?**
There is no PowerPoint or Google Slides add-in. Open present mode in its own browser window and switch to it during your talk, or share that window in Zoom, Google Meet or Teams. Arrow keys and most presentation clickers move between polls.

**Can my AI assistant set up the polls?**
Yes. Polls has a public API with no key. An assistant preparing your meeting can create the event with all its polls in one call and hand you the join code, the audience link and your admin link, then read the results back later.

Polls is an OpenApp: free, with public source and its own agent. More free apps: https://free-apps.openapps.xyz/
